How would your character describe themselves before a court of their respected peers? Magic will reveal outright lies, but not subtle deceit.

Smiling-My name is Sophia Shade. I come from an honorable family and like my sister, I strive to uphold that honorable status in my daily life, though I am far from perfect (wink). I am a student of worldly knowledge. All I know is that I know nothing. I have spent my life in study and strive to keep my mind open to all ideas, concepts, readings and people. Learning is my forté, whether I’m learning what your weekend has been like, arithmetic, or an obscure culture in a far off land.

•What virtues, like courage, generosity, justice, or truthfulness does your character value the most? What qualities does your character despise?

Curiosity is what keeps me motivated. There is simply not enough time in my life to learn all that this world has to teach me. There is beauty all around us. Though beauty comes in many forms, from a petrified tree standing alone in a field or from a shallow puddle that was leftover after a rain. Energy from our world has formed both and it is this energy that piques my curiosity the most.

•What is your character’s greatest strength?

I have the ability to focus on tasks and not let anything deter me and the patience to see it through no matter how painstaking it is.

•What is your character’s greatest weakness?

Laughing-Ever heard the expression, “Curiosity killed the cat”? I will disregard consequences, if I think the final result is worth it.

•Ordinary people do not understand the world of magic and the supernatural—for them it is only myth and legend. However, your character understands the truth. Magic and the supernatural are real, and great evil exists in the world. Your character is a “point of light in the widespread darkness.” Describe how your character came to this revelation.

Well, growing up, I have always been able to “talk” to my sister, Ava. I mean, she can’t be far away or anything, but I can “send” her a message or questions and she can answer me. But I could only hear her if I asked first. She has never been able to “talk” to me first. I was also naturally good at talking to people. Whether it was convincing them or getting them to tell me things they never wanted to begin with.

Ever since our father, Edgar disappeared, my mother says Ava hasn’t been the same. Its though she has been on a “mission” ever since. I never really knew him, I was just a baby when it happened. I was about 12 when Ava finally told me what she saw and what happened. Immediately, I got Goosebumps. The “wave” of energy she spoke of seemed to trigger something in my mind somehow. I had to know more about it.

I poured all my energies since then into my studies. I suddenly wanted to know everything. I felt like the more I learned, the more “satisfied” my mind became, the more whole and complete I felt.

I was 15 and deep in my studies at the temple, studying the history of Mordent, when I came across a passage that discussed a small sect several hundred years ago, who were eventually lynched. This sect was referred to as the “Articoy”. It described how they were seen to somehow move objects with there mind and control the thoughts of others. They were depicted as ‘evil’ and the cause of crops dying, war outbreak, disease and famine.

I brought this up to my professor, my curiosity officially piqued. I trusted my professor, for he is wise beyond all and slightly younger than dirt (giggle), just kidding, but he is really old. Sometimes I think he is not human, but of a race from a world that is not in any of my books. His name is Larthorianum. He looked at me, right into my eyes, and this is what he “said”:

“The Articoy were not destroyed, but are alive yet today. Sophia, you have the gift.”

I stood there frozen. I heard him loud and clear, yet his lips never moved. “I never knew others could do anything like that!”

He laughed aloud and said “But you can! Why should you be the only one?” he winked, “Come with me”.

He stood up with some effort grabbing his walking stick for aid and led me through a corridor to a Door that seemed to have never been opened in the last 100 years. “Grab that torch on the wall over there” he said. The Door was covered in cobwebs and dust with rusted hinges. He took out his keys and unlocked the Door. The Door opened as if new and made no sound once it shut again. He took the torch I was holding and held it to an eye-level trench in the wall, and suddenly the fire spread around the room from the trench.

“Sophia, now your education will begin.” He said seriously.

I looked around and there seemed to be an endless supply of books that were as ancient as the Door looked. In the center of the room, there were several tables, some round, some square. There were are stange markings on the floor in various places. I later learned that these were used to create rituals. Larthorianum taught me two that I know to date. “These will aid you one day, for you are meant for something Sophia.” He taught me “Sending” and “Silence”. And also gave me my very own ritual book for me to learn and study more. Eventually I developed a way to use these rituals with out components and only the power of my thoughts.

I learned many great things of good and evil. I studied under his tutelage how to harness and grow my mind’s power. When I found my limitations, Larthorianum said I will overcome them later but to keep training. Larthorianum told me I can never openly use my powers, unless it means life or death, as they are greatly misunderstood and feared.

Every day I frequented the Door’s room until I received a missive from my sister…

•Describe your character’s family? What are your parents’ like? Do you have brothers or sisters? Which family or friends do you hold most dear?

Same as Ava’s.

•Everyone has something that is important, whether it is a ring, a sword, or a memento. What is sacred to your character? Explain why it is important.

My mother gave me an Amber stone. She said it was my fathers and he always thought it should be split between me and Ava. It is round and smooth in shape with swirls of gold, amber and browns.

•Has your character ever killed someone? If so please describe what happened with as much detail as possible.

Never killed anyone.

•Does your character have any enemies? If so, why? What happened?

Only those that took my father. And those that mean to do that to others.

•Your character is plagued by a recurring dream/nightmare. Describe the dream.

The world turns black and grey except me and my stone. I am standing in the midst of this crying into the darkness. There is a glowing aura about it that pulses with my blood.

•What is your character’s greatest regret?

I have none.

•How do you want people to remember you after your death?

Sophia was a person of great knowledge. She stood for what was right and brought peace and happiness through enlightenment.
